Stunning 19th century walnut drapers table. Unusual to find one in walnut, this French table has been carefully restored and has a beautiful patina to it. A couple of superficial grooves in the top are commensurate with age and are part of the charm of the history of this piece. It has two drawers at the front and one on the back. This delightful piece of French history would work well as a table to display and store platters, plates and bowls, similarly it would accommodate a serving table in a kitchen with storage underneath, and whilst 80cm wide, it lends itself to being a narrower island in a farmhouse, classic or modern kitchen. Truly a striking piece of 19th century French furniture. Clearance from floor to lower layer is 12cm.
The French drapers table was a common feature in the cloth merchant's shops in days gone by. The tops of these tables have a large surface area perfect for the unfurling and cutting of cloth and drawers to the frieze to provide space for the cutting tools.
